Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has again played host to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, at his home in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Atiku, former Vice President, led Okowa and other top PDP faithful to the former President, on Thursday, the second time such a visit would take place since Atiku picked up the PDP ticket for the election, in what is seen as a move to get the former President’s help to get the party back to power.
Details of the meeting were not disclosed, but it is believed to be in line with recent revelations by the Atiku camp that Jonathan, might be behind the group of governors (G-5) led by Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, which is carrying out a major war against the former VP.
The Wike camp, which emerged after the PDP primaries in May, has vowed that the ouster of the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, was the irreducible minimum for the members, including Samuel Ortom of Benue, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Seyi Makinde of Oyo and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, to join in the Atiku presidential campaign.
“Last night, I led a delegation alongside my vice presidential candidate, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, on a courtesy visit to former President Goodluck Jonathan at his residence in Abuja,” Atiku tweeted, sharing a photo of the trio, Atiku, informed in a twit he sent out, he sent out on the event, accompanied with pictures of the team with the former Presidentt, who has refused to step out into the present political arena, citing his new role as a statesman, which he said he would now prefer to play.
Okowa, on his own twitter handle, posted how discussions at the meeting centred on “plans to recover Nigeria,” adding: “Last night, alongside our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, we had a great meeting with our former President, H.E. Goodluck Jonathan. There, we discussed our plans to #RecoverNigeria with His Excellency.”
