A confident Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, on Friday gave the major reason he can never lose an election against Gboyega Oyetola, his successor, hinging it on the mutual love existing between him and the people and the fact that he had used the opportunity he has to serve them.
Adeleke, who was a guest of Politics Today, a current affairs programme on Channels Television, told his host, shortly after the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, re-affirmed him as the authentic governor of the state that the only option for Oyetola, was to move on and forget about returning to power in the state.
He said the verdict of the appellate court, which upturned that of the Osun State Electoral Petition Tribunal, was a vindication by God that he truly won the election of July 16 last year, despite the attempt to truncate the victory in January, thanking the people of the state for their support.
Hear him: “God has really vindicated me that on the July 16 election, my people in Osun State, they voted for me. I told the world that the tribunal did what is called miscarriage of justice. And now, the appeal, they’ve cleared everything and the court affirmed me as the authentic governor of Osun State.
“For the Osun people, I have to thank them for their massive support. I dedicate this victory to God and to the whole state. Democracy is at play here. If they (Oyetola) feel that the want to go the Supreme Court, so be it. But I believe that we should move forward and make sure that Osun State grows from strength to strength. But if they feel that they should go to the Supreme Court, we shall meet.
“I have confidence because I know that my people love me and I love my people of Osun State. And they voted for me massively. The Court of Appeal has established the whole thing about over-voting. There was no over-voting. They have given the signal that the primary thing about the election is on the BIVAS. So, I’m so confident that my people love me. After my July 16th election, the February 25th election, has confirmed that I’m the authentic winner of the July 16th election. Our party won all the Senate, the House of Representatives we have in Osun State, we won all.
“Of course, the just concluded House of Assembly last weekend, on March 18, we won everything. That has confirmed everything. That’s why I’m so confident that my people are with me and that they’re going to be with me all the way. The judgement of the Appeal Court is so watertight that even if it goes to the Supreme Court, it will favour me.”
Adeleke, who said he had already shown his capacity to bring positive development in the state, said anyone who cared to see should visit the state to see for themselves, what he had done in his short stay in office.
Hear him: “I’ve demonstrated it during the 100 days. In 100 days, what they could not do in four years, I’ve done it. Are you going to talk about healthcare, are you going to talk about the roads and water supply everywhere? I’ve touched the lives of the people. I’m a grassroots man to the core. Come and see street credibility. I cannot even go out or go into my office. People will troop out everyday that I go to my office. They’ll be calling me Imole. Imole has come to stay here. And when light comes, darkness vanishes. That is it.”
Reiterating his faith and appreciation to God over the development, in another statement he personally to thank the people, he reiterated his extension of an olive branch to his opponents on the need to join hands with him in the taske of developing the state.
He added: ” I thank God Almighty and our good people of Osun state. I dedicate this victory to God and my people. This judgement confirmed my earlier position that the judgement of the Tribunal is a miscarriage of Justice. The judiciary has right the wrongs of the lower Court. This has rekindled the confidence of the nation in the integrity of the judiciary as the stabiliser of the judiciary and last hope of the common man.
“I am particularly glad that the Court of Appeal has ruled that BVAS machine and voters register are the primary sources, not the report from the server. This has strengthened our democracy and remove a time bomb which the judgement of the Tribunal had planted for our democracy.
“I appreciate Osun people for standing by me and my party through repeated validation of my governorship mandate at the recent federal and state elections. My party won three straight elections from July 16th 2022 to the March 18th ,2023. It was a resounding vote of confidence in my governorship by the people of Osun state. The judiciary has now confirmed the will of the people that I am the validly elected Governor of my state.
“My appreciation goes to the civil servants, artisans, market people, clerics, students, women and youth. Osun people defended the mandate from 2022 to date. I commend the judiciary for resisting all pressure. Rule of law is strengthened when judgement affirms the will of the people. On behalf of Osun people and my party, the PDP,, we appreciate the judiciary and the men of conscience on the bar and the bench.
“Let me use this opportunity to extend sincere hands of fellowship to former Governor Oyetola and the APC. Let build the state together. Let unite for the good of our people. The State needs leaders across party lines to join hands for robust and accelerated development of the state. As brothers and sisters, we are all requested to start the process of healing. Forget party politics as election is over. All members of the political class in Osun state should join hands with me to take our state to greater height.”
